unique name

Each element of a dimension has a unique name generated when the dimension is created by the OLAP. The unique name uniquely identifies an individual value in a multidimensional database. Its format is [Dimension name].[Level 1].[Level 2].[Level n] (for example, [Region].[All Regions].[Europe]). It contrasts with the caption, or ’friendly name’ of an element. Generally, captions are more convenient to use than unique name and are used in reports by default. However, functions operate on unique names, not captions.
