Calculating the FTE

The left side of the assignment report shows required dimensions for the selected context. There are two icons indicating at which level a configuration was done: an icon indicating FTE configuration and an icon indicating that reference factor settings were configured. The table on the right shows the maximum, minimum, and fixed FTE values. It also shows the HR source data, driver-based FTE, and total FTE.

  1. Click the Home icon.
  2. Select Applications > Sub Plan > Workforce Planning > Configuration > Assignment Report.
  3. Optionally, change the context variables:
    1. Click Change context.
    2. Select the configuration set, version, and the calculation method.
    3. Click Save.
  4. Select the elements from dimensions that were activated for the selected calculation method.
The FTE values from the HR source data are displayed next to the elements of each dimension. The T column shows total values. That is, the total value for all aggregated elements. The D column shows dedicated values that are assigned directly to the selected element.
  5. To narrow your results, click Filter > Open filters, select an employee attribute, specify the value, and click Apply.
You can add multiple filters and save your selected attributes as a preset. The preset is applied in addition to any filters that are defined for the selected calculation method.
  6. Click Add Driver to add one or more drivers to your labor planning.
    1. Select one or more drivers to add and click Next.
You can also create a new driver if the driver to be used for your calculation is not available.
    2. For each dimension, select the type of driver value to be used for calculations. These options are available:
      Detail
Represents the value for the selected element without any aggregation and applies the configuration to all elements under the level of configuration. This is the only option that applies the same configuration to multiple dimension elements.
      Detail Element
Represents the driver value that is assigned directly to the selected element without any aggregation. The configuration applies only to the selected elements.
      Parent
Represents the aggregated driver value of the first consolidated parent element. If the driver value is unavailable, the next consolidated element above that contains any driver value is used.
      Aggregated Parent Data
Represents the aggregated driver value of the consolidated parent element. If you use this option, the driver value must be on the parent level.
      Total
Represents the total aggregated driver value for the dimension.
    3. Assign the factor value for each driver that was added.
The factor value is the value of a driver that corresponds to one FTE. For example, the number of shipments that one employee can handle. The factor value is assigned to the current and future periods.
Note: If you use the Detail driver option, use the Reference factor feature to set up the factor value. This assures correct functionality for direct labor calculations.
    4. Assign the driver weight for each driver that was added to your FTE calculation.
The driver weight is assigned to the current and future periods. The sum of driver weights for all drivers must be between 99.5% and 100%.
    5. Optionally, change the value of the driver weight or the factor value.
If you change the value, you can select to apply the new value to the cell or to the row.
      Apply to Cell
Changes the corresponding value for the selected driver for the current or future period.
      Apply to Row
Changes the corresponding value for the selected driver for the selected period and all following periods of the selected configuration set and version.
    6. Click Save.
  7. Optionally, click Configuration details to view the driver configuration.
You cannot change the driver configuration through the Configuration details dialog box.
  8. Optionally, to view the assignment configuration for past periods, select the period to display.
By default, the current period is selected and you can edit the configuration for the current period. If you select a previous period, the Assignment Report is in view mode and you cannot modify the configuration.
If you select a past period and your FTE calculation method includes the Organization dimension, the FTE results reflect changes to the organization structure. Actual and calculated FTE numbers are displayed for the organization hierarchy that was valid on the last day of the selected period. The past FTE forecasts are displayed using the organization hierarchy that was used at the time when the forecast was done.
  9. Select the data range to adjust the number of past and future forecasts to be displayed.
  10. Optionally, click Reference factor to configure the reference factor values and apply it to your configuration.
  11. Click Update.
After loading the report, you can collapse the context pane.
After updating the data, the results of the FTE calculations for the selected context are displayed.
