Starting and stopping services

When the Service Controller runs, it auto-starts services that are registered to the farm.

You can stop individual services manually but, after a restart, they restart automatically. To stop a service permanently, you must unregister it from the farm. In a production environment services must be started and stopped only by the Service Controller.

Stopping the Service Controller also stops all the services, including the Configuration Service Worker. Service Expert can stop and start services on the local machine. For troubleshooting, you can also restart the Service Expert and log on again.

Services that are running on remote machines can be started and stopped by using Service Expert that is installed on those machines. To stop a farm, you must stop all services on each machine in the Infor d/EPM farm.

To manually start services, click the Start option in the Control section of each service.

You can also start, stop, or unregister services in d/EPM Administration. But there, you cannot stop the last remaining instance of a service worker or manager. In Service Expert, there is no such restriction.

See the "Administration" section.

Caution:
Service Expert can stop a service, even if it is its last remaining instance. Therefore, the functionality of the farm can be affected. For example, stopping the last Dashboards Service manager or worker makes the farm unusable until it is restarted.
