Administering cubes

Cubes are multidimensional data areas. A cube in OLAP Server consists of 2 to 20 dimensions. Single values (so-called cells) are referenced through a dimension element of each dimension. There are two cell types:

Writable cells, where you specify the base values.
Calculated cells, whose values result from base elements or calculations. You cannot specify anything into these cells.

You can assign permissions for cubes to specify data access for users or roles.

You create cubes in the node Cubes of the tree. To create a cube, right-click the node Cubes in the tree and select New > Cube. Specify the name and description in the Create Cube dialog and select the cube type. Select the cube in the tree and specify the dimensions and their order within the cube.

Caution: Do not change the dimensions and their order later on. Changing the order or the number of dimensions might result in a loss of data.
