Integrated Windows authentication (IWA)

Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA) uses the Windows IDs that are stored in the Optiva database. When the OptivaServer and OptivaWeb installers are run without any post-installation configuration, the default authentication is IWA.

For Optiva users in an intranet environment, IWA dispenses with the user name and password login dialog. Users are logged directly into Optiva when these conditions are met:

  • The user is logged into the domain and not only the local computer.
  • The WINDOWS_ID field, in the FSUSER table, is specified as the Windows ID of the user. You can use the User Information function to find the Windows Identity value for a given set of Windows credentials.
  • Only a single database entry is found in PLM Process Configuration application.

When the WINDOWS_ID matches the user and there is more than a single database, the login dialog is displayed. The value of the User ID is displayed and cannot be changed. The password field is hidden. At this point, you must select a database and click Sign In.
