Assigning parameters

Parameters, sometimes called technical parameters, are attributes of an item. Parameters can have:

  • A yes or no value such as if an item is kosher
  • Numerical values such as SPF for sunscreen
  • Physical properties such as density
  1. Open the Item form.
  2. Click the Parameters tab.
  3. Scroll through the list. Notice that not every parameter has a value; only the parameters that are associated with the item require values.

Parameters are grouped according to labs. Consequently, you see only parameters that are relevant to your work. Additional parameter filters are subsets of these parameters established by the system administrator.

    <Attribute>
The names of these columns can be customized by the system administrator.
    Calculate

Calculate equation-based parameters. You calculate through a Perform Calculation button on the toolbar.

The Calculate button is disabled if a master formula is assigned to the item. When you save this item, Optiva does not calculate the item.

    Filter
Select a filter to limit the parameters that are displayed. For example, you can select Rollup to show only the parameters that are assigned to the Rollup category. To learn how to assign a default filter, see the Infor Optiva User Guide.
    Level

Indicates how parameters values are being calculated.

    • Pending (0) - Values are waiting to be calculated by Optiva or manually overridden.
    • Manual Override (1) - Values were overridden manually and were not calculated by Optiva.
    • Calculated (2) - Values are calculated by Optiva.
    • Derived from Constituents (3) - Applies only to raw material items that are derived from a constituent formula. The parameter is copied from a constituent formula that is complete, that is, it includes exact properties for all constituents. This type of transfer occurs only by the Constituent Rollup method in the ObjMethod function in the Workflow.
    Parameter
Shows the parameters that are assigned to the selected filter. The system administrator determines which parameters are assigned to each filter category.
    Test Method
Informational. If you have implemented the Optiva Testing module, you can select a test method to validate this parameter.
    UOM
Select the item’s unit of measure (UOM), such as pounds (LB), gallons (GAL), or kilograms (KG). You can select a standard unit of measure for the item here. When you add this item to a formula, specify amounts of this item using other units. The conversion is handled by the system.
    Value

Only values for the type that are specified in the parameter definition, for example numeric or text, are allowed. Specify numeric values for parameters based on the unit of measure shown in the UOM column.

If you do not enter a value, the parameter can be interpreted by Optiva as zero or null.

    • Null means that the parameter has no value; it is not interpreted as zero.
    • Formulas containing items with null parameter values also have null for those parameters.
    • The system administrator configures which parameters should be treated as null or zero, if the value is empty.

If the item does not have a master formula, specify values manually. Click the Calc button to calculate parameters that are calculated from other parameters and then rolled up in subsequent formula levels.

If a manufacturing item has a master formula, you cannot enter, override or calculate the values. The values are contained in the formula and are copied to the item. See the Level field for more information about calculated values.

For raw materials (i.e., component type 8), use a workflow to copy (transfer) parameter values from the constituent formula.
