Types of analyses
There are various possible types of analyses to derive product label values:
- Nutrition analysis
Use test results to derive information for the nutrition fact panel. The samples that are analyzed can come from freshly-made batches of the formula that serve as prototypes.
- Monitoring analysis
Gather test results going back in time. Or, gather the results from various samples that are analyzed at various times and from various production lots, off store shelves. Then compare the data with the label values as they are currently reported on the product. If there has been a change in the label values over time, monitoring analysis reveals the change. Then the product development team can create a new version of the label and any necessary changes.
- Formula analysis
Determine if a formula change impacts the current product label. If it does, then adjustments are required to be made either to the formula or to the label to ensure the label is correct.
