Completing stages and tasks in one step

The system administrator can create Action Sets that have more than one stage (i.e., milestone) and more than one task and sub-task within each stage.

In this example, there are two stages.

  • Stage 1 has two tasks. Task 1 also has two sub-tasks.
  • Stage 2 has one task.

For this example, an Action Code is assigned to Stage 1, Task 1, and Stage 2.

  1. Launch the workflow for this Action Set. The default action that is specified in the WORKFLOW.DEFAULTACTION profile attribute is assigned to the leaf steps. Leaf steps are the steps that do not have any child tasks.

  2. In the Gantt tab, the Project Manager can complete Task 1 and the sub-tasks within that task in one step. The Project Manager clicks the Action Code for Task 1 and selects an Event icon in the WIP Detail dialog; Task 1, Task 1.1, and Task 1.2 are marked as complete.

  3. The same logic is true at the Stage level. In this example, the Project Manager marked all of the tasks and sub-tasks complete for Stage 1. This was accomplished by clicking the Action for Stage 1 and specifying an event for that action.

What happens if the Action that is assigned to Stage 1 does not have any event icons? In this scenario, the Project Manager cannot mark Stage 1 as complete. Stage 1 is marked as complete only after the sub-tasks and tasks within Stage 1 are complete.
