Assigning alternate ingredients

Alternate ingredients can replace items in a formula if the original ingredient is not available or appropriate. The items that are displayed in the Formula form are the defaults used for calculations, rollups, etc.

An alternate ingredient is interchangeable with an original item. For example, two brands of an item, such as sweetener, can be used interchangeably.

To assign an alternate ingredient:

  1. Open the Formula form.
  2. Click the Item Lines tab.
  3. Select at least one row in the Item Lines tab.
  4. Click Alternate Ingredients.

Sometimes, you can group items because they are used together.

A group of alternate items can replace a group of ingredients. For example, water and concentrate are used together but the dilution depends on the concentration level of the alternate. Group water and the concentrate and treat them as a single alternate.

A sub-formula can also be used as an alternate for another sub-formula.
