What is a Global Location Number?

Global Location Number (GLN) are 12 to 14 digit identification codes issued by the GS1 to identify location of parties involved in business transactions. These transaction can involve purchase orders or invoices.

GLNs could be:
  • A physical location (for example, warehouses or shelves)
  • A legal entity (for example, a company)
  • A functional entity (for example, accounting departments within a legal entity)

GLNs are commonly used in barcodes on logistic labels and electronic commerce systems.
