Overview
This table shows the primary objects (symbols) in the New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) suite:
Object | Description |
---|---|
Items | An item is a generic term to describe any piece of a formula or anything involved in the creation of a formula. Items can be ingredients, instructions, or byproducts. Items can contribute to a formula's yield. |
Formulas | A formula is composed of ingredients and
instructions. Formulas bring in parameter values of the items and combine them
with their own parameter values in calculations.
Most work that is performed by a formulator is transcribed into a formula, but the formula can represent and regulate more than that. Any business functions can be represented by a formula. |
Projects | A project is used to manage all aspects of
product development. It contains statistical information such as the project
duration, costs, personnel.
Projects also contain references to other Optiva objects, such as formulas and specifications. |
Specifications | A specification is used to define the requirements for the formulation and manufacturing process. Formulators can validate their formulas by comparing them to the required values in the specifications. |
