Other SMTP considerations

Some implementations have configured Optiva to send messages to users who do not have in-boxes on the email server to which Optiva is sending the email. This sets up a situation where the email server is expected to "relay" or "forward" the message to another email server. Although this is allowed by the SMTP standard, many email administrators disable the Relay/Forwarding feature on their email servers. That deters spammers who use that feature to send large amounts of unwanted email.

What if an email notification is sent to a user who does not have an in-box on the email server that Optiva is configured to use? And what if the recipient fails to receive it? One possibility is that the Relay/Forwarding may be disabled on the email server. This is a topic for discussion with the email administrator.
