Creating item instructions

Instructions can be used for processing (example, mixing or premix all dry ingredients). They can also be for special warnings or hazards (example, dust hazard), or handling instructions (example, roll drum before loading).

There are two types of instructions.

  • Instruction text is entered as part of an item object and applies to the item. For example, the butter item can have an instruction for how to store the butter. The instruction text is included when the items are added to formulas and specifications and can be customized there for each formula or specification. These items also have other properties such as parameter values and alias codes. Items with instructions are calculated in the regular way to contribute to formula quantities and parameter values.
  • Items can be created as an instruction type (Component Type 6). The purpose of an instruction item is to provide a text instruction for the formula or specification. For example, an item called SIFT is added to a formula underneath the dry ingredients. The description and instruction text further explain the sift instruction. Instructions are added in the same way as other items are added. These items do not contribute to the Formula Yield.
