Quenching for sensitizers

Some products, such as fragrances, contain sensitizers which can cause allergic reactions. Hives is one example of an allergic skin reaction. Quenching agents can be used to neutralize the effects of these sensitizers.

Sensitizers can be used in formulation as long as they are neutralized by the quenching agents. The quenching agents are measured as a percentage in relation to the sensitizer. Their mass can be equal to or less than the sensitizer.

You add both the sensitizer and the quencher to a formula and specify the necessary amount of the quencher.

When you click Quencher Calc in the Formula form, the quenching calculation is performed by the system. Either a successful message or a failure message is displayed.

The failure results are shown in the Notes grid of the Formula page. The function code is QUENCH OUTPUT. As part of the results, you are notified of the amount by which you should increase the quenching agent.
