Parameters

Parameters depict the properties of items, formulas, and other Optiva objects that can be measured, calculated, or stated.

Examples of formula characteristics described by parameters are:

  • The percentage of sodium in the formula
  • The pH of the formula
  • The cost of producing the formula
  • The boiling point of the formula
  • The drying time of the formula
  • The SPF of the formula
  • The presence of a restricted ingredient in the formula

Many parameters of a formula are calculated or pulled from the parameters of its items.

Some of these items can be sub-formulas or intermediate formulas. These formulas calculate their parameters from other items.

Altering the amounts of any item in a formula can affect the values of one or more parameters for the formula. When users click Calc, Optiva updates any changes to item amounts and recalculates the values of the formula’s parameters. Calculation automatically occurs when a user saves a formula.

Parameters are assigned to a unit of measure. Therefore, units of measure must be defined before parameters are defined.
