Rules for calculations

Values from calculations can be adjusted by rules that account for requirements of regulatory agencies.

This table shows a brief description of the rules:

Rule Description
Daily Value The recommended daily allowance of a nutrient. Daily value is used to calculate the percent daily value. This information is required to be on a nutrition fact panel of a product label.
Rounding These rules define how a calculated parameter value is to be expressed on a nutrition label. The parameter value expressed on a nutrition label is based on regulations defined by government agencies for labeling purposes.
Rounding Degradation Degradation rules help to calculate the nutritional value for an ingredient at the end of its shelf life. Some nutrients can degrade continuously over time. Some degradation is accelerated by the packaging material.

Shelf life is the number of months that are used as a constant in the degradation rule calculation.
