Creating material transactions for batch jobs in the Process Manufacturing Production Batch Workbench
In the Process Manufacturing Workbench, you can use the Issue Materials tab to quickly create material transactions based on on-hand inventory for any or all of the listed jobs. On this tab, you also record all relevant information regarding the consumption of raw materials, components and packaging during production processing.
- Open the Process Manufacturing Production Batch Workbench and select the Process Mfg Order (batch) number that you want.
- On the Issue Materials tab, specify this information:
- All Jobs
- By default, the Job Materials grid shows materials based on the job selected in the jobs grid. To show job materials for all jobs assigned to the production batch, select this option.
- Scale BOM By Quantity Required
- By default, packaging materials requirements are based on the quantity produced. To show the packaging material requirements for the expected quantity, select this option.
- View the information in the Job Materials grid. By default, this grid shows materials for the job that is selected in the Jobs grid on the Jobs tab. However, if All Jobs was selected, this grid shows materials for all jobs assigned to the production batch.
The Job Materials grid contains these fields:
- Job/Suffix
- This field shows the job and suffix to which the material is assigned.
- Item
- The item to be issued is displayed.
- Warehouse
- The warehouse assigned to the job is displayed.
- Description
- The item description is displayed.
- Formula Quantity Required
- This field shows the required quantity based on the formula definition. This can differ from the Stock Quantity Required if the formula line was defined with a different unit of measure.
- Formula Line U/M
- This field shows the unit of measure that was used to define the material in the formula.
- Stock Quantity Required
- This field shows the quantity required in the item’s stock unit of measure.
- Stock U/M
- This field shows the item's stock unit of measure.
- Quantity Remaining
- This calculated field shows the remaining quantity to be issued. This is based on the Stock Quantity Required minus the Quantity Allocated.
- Quantity Allocated
- This field shows the quantity already allocated of this material, in the item’s stock unit of measure.
The field can contain data for existing transactions as well as transactions still to be processed.
- Perform tasks related to material transactions for the batch using buttons on this form:
- Click Refresh Requirements if the material requirements need to be refreshed. This might be needed if the formula or job materials were defined externally.
- If you believe that the materials inventory could have changed recently, you can select an item in the top grid and click Select On Hand
- Click Resize Formula to Materials Available to resize the formula based on all available materials in the system. This is useful if certain materials have limited availability and the production batch order quantity does not necessarily need to be met.
- Click Auto Allocate to automatically allocate a quantity from available inventory. Lines are selected automatically, starting with the first line in the bottom grid and proceeding down the lines until the required quantity is fulfilled. By default, inventory is allocated in a FIFO order based on lot expiration date. The Available Stock Quick Entry grid is updated to show the quantities that will be allocated.Note: Clicking this button does not create the material transaction; it only prepares the quantities to be allocated.
- Click Process Transaction to create and process material transactions, based on the values defined in the Available Stock Quick Entry grid, to fulfill the quantity required for the batch. A confirmation message indicates that the material transactions were created and the Job Material grid is updated.
- Verify and process the information on these sub-tabs:
- The Distribution sub-tab includes the Available Stock Quick Entry to select stock for the materials. The quantity available at a location is displayed in the bottom grid. This is useful if you have fast-moving inventory in a system where inventory stock levels fluctuate often. You can define what inventory will be consumed from what location by editing the Quantity To Allocate field. After you specify a value in this field, click Process Transactions to allocate the quantity from the defined locations.
- The Transactions sub-tab contains a grid that shows all material transactions that are already processed for this production batch order.
Any notes from the formula are listed in the Formula Notes field. This field shows any formula lines defined with a Formula Line Type of Text or Boilerplate.
