Setting up finished goods for Process Manufacturing
Finished goods are the final product that the formula or process produces. To set up the finished goods:
- Add an item for the finished good on the Items form. Make sure you include the U/M (typically an EACH) and, if the finished good is used in food or other process-tracked formulas, ensure that Lot Tracking is turned on
- For each item, set up information on the Process Manufacturing Item Extensions form.
- Use the Engineering Workbench to define the BOM for your finished goods. The BOM for a finished good always includes the WIP item and typically also includes the packaging.
A finished goods quantity is defined in one of these ways:
- Using the current material definition
- Using the Fill Quantity value, if it is set for the finished goods on the Process Manufacturing Item Extensions form.
Example: Your finished good is a package of 12 cookies. The BOM is made up of one package (the EACH), one label, and 12 cookies made from the formula. The BOM definition on the finished good is used to create the batch.
If an item extension is defined for the finished good, and a Fill Quantity is defined, the Fill Quantity is used for the consumption instead of the BOM definition. So, for example, if you have a 1:1 definition for the BOM but a 12:1 definition for the Fill Quantity, the batch uses the 12:1 definition.
Note: Both the Fill Quantity and Fill U/M must be defined on the finished good’s item extension for this functionality to work. In addition, a conversion value must be defined for the WIP item’s U/M. For example, if the WIP item’s U/M is in KG, a Unit of Measure Conversion Factor must be defined for KG on the finished good’s item extension.
