Updating cost definitions for a WIP item or job order in Process Manufacturing

To update the cost definition for the materials associated with a WIP item in a formula, use the Update WIP Cost BOM button on the Process Manufacturing Formulas or Process Manufacturing Specifications form. You also use this button for Production type formulas.

This process ensures that you get the correct cost for your WIP item when you perform a BOM cost rollup.

The Update WIP Cost BOM button affects the WIP item's BOM definition for R&D formulas in this way:

  • The route items on the formula's operations are copied to the WIP item.
  • The formula's material definition is copied to the WIP item's current materials definition.

The formula size is converted to one unit of measure of the WIP item, using the item's stock unit of measure for formula lines identified with Units type of Unit. For formula lines identified with Units type of Lot, the Item’s Lot Size is used to determine the Current Materials size.

For Production type formulas, the formula includes the associated job and suffix assigned to the formula. For these types of formulas, the job order is updated instead of the WIP Item.

The Update WIP Cost BOM button affects the Production Formula’s Job for Production Formulas in this way:

  • The route item on the formula’s operation are copied to the job operations.
  • The formula’s material definition is copied (or updated) to the job materials definition.

The formula size is converted to one unit of measure of the WIP Item, using the item’s stock unit of measure for formula lines identified with Units type of Unit. For formula lines identified with Units type of Lot, the Job’s release quantity is used to determine the Job Materials size.
