Using the Process Manufacturing Production Batch Workbench

The Process Manufacturing Production Batch Workbench is the easiest location to record all production related transactions - production, material issues, and labor - as well as to validate and close a batch. The workbench also provides quick visibility into batch yield and short materials.

After you generate a process manufacturing order (batch), use the workbench to review the batch information:

  1. In the Process Manufacturing Production Batch Workbench header, select the Production ID (batch) number, and verify whether the Status of the batch is Open or Closed.
  2. Verify this information on the Parameters tab, or change it as needed:
    Manufacturing Specification / Version
    This field shows the manufacturing specification that was used to create the production batch order.
    Warehouse
    This field shows the warehouse used for this production batch order. This is the warehouse from which the WIP items and sub jobs pull their materials. Finished goods jobs have separate warehouses defined at the job level.
    Manufacturing Class
    This class is preassigned to the formula or specification.
    Manufacturing Subclass
    This subclass is preassigned to the formula or specification.
    Default Lot
    This field shows the lot used by all jobs in this batch order. By default, this is set to the Production Batch ID value, but it can be overwritten.
    Staging Location
    This is the location used by all jobs in this batch order. This is originally set on the Warehouses form and possibly updated during production batch creation, but it can be overwritten here.
    Scheduled Start Date
    Initially assigned when a production batch is created, this date is the expected start date of the production batch. It can be overwritten.
    Due Date
    Initially assigned when a production batch is created, this date is the expected completion date of the production batch. It can be overwritten.
    Complete Date
    This is the actual completion date of the production batch. This date is required to close the production batch.
  3. You can use these buttons on the Parameters tab to perform tasks or go to related forms:
    • Batch Ticket: Click this button to open the Process Manufacturing Production Batch Ticket Reports form, where you can print or preview the production batch order batch ticket.
    • Cost Detail: Click this button to open the Job Cost Detail Breakout Report form, where you can print or preview the report for the production batch order.
    • Job Status: Click this button to open the Job Cost Detail Status Report form where you can print or preview the report for the production batch order.

    The other buttons are described later in this topic.

  4. On the Jobs tab, look at the list of jobs, co-products, and sub-jobs. (Co-products and sub-jobs are only defined in some cases.) There should be a primary job and output jobs to handle the packaging. If everything looks correct, your system is set up correctly and you are ready to produce batches.
    Note:  At this point, transactions could be handled through standard SyteLine manufacturing processes to issue materials to the jobs and to record receipt of the output. You can use the Process Manufacturing Production Batch Workbench instead, to quickly update the information and transactions related to the process. In the workbench, or to edit the production formula. You can also perform WIP balancing to resize the output or resize the formulation in the workbench, moving forward or backward through the jobs to ensure that everything is properly scaled.

    Use the Jobs tab to view jobs assigned to a production batch order, create a job receipt, or perform additional tasks related to the selected job. To help you determine which job is currently selected, the Job/Suffix and Item are displayed below the Jobs grid.

    You can perform these tasks using buttons on the Jobs tab:

    • Click Edit Formula to open the Process Manufacturing Formulas form, showing the formula assigned to the selected job. This button is enabled only if the selected job is associated with a formula. You can then change specific settings on the formula. Editing these values affects the processing for the rest of the production batch order.

    • Click Resize Formula to resize the formula assigned to the selected job. This button is enabled only if the selected job is associated with a formula. You can resize the entire job’s formula by a proportional amount.

    • Click Update Stats to refresh the selected job's statistics. This is relevant if the job has been affected by external processes and does not require the entire production batch order to be refreshed.
    • Click Edit Job to open the Job Orders form for the selected job.
    • Click Issue Material to open the Job Material Transactions form for the selected job
    • Click Job Receipt to open the Job Receipt form for the selected job.
    • Click Edit Job Matl to open the Job Materials form for the selected job.

    The Jobs grid provides this information about the job and its current state, from a processing perspective:

    Job/Suffix
    The system assigned job and suffix is displayed. The job ID is defined as the production batch order, and the suffix shows the sub-assembly order.
    Job Date
    This date matches the production batch order's Scheduled Start Date that was defined when the production batch order was created. This date is taken directly from the job.
    Batch Job Type
    This value is determined by option selections during production batch creation and is used to scale the job. These options are available here:
    • Primary Product: The primary product is being produced.
    • WIP: A WIP item is being produced. This type of job typically has a formula associated with it. WIP is used for stand-alone items attached to a job that do not affect the formula.
    • Co-Product: This option is used for any co-product jobs that were defined during production batch creation. Co-products are scaled based on a percentage of the primary products.
    • Sub-Job: This option is used for any sub-job that was defined during production batch creation or that was created through an intermediate formula or through an item where Explode In Production was set on the formula line. Sub-jobs are scaled based on intermediate item lines on the formula job.
    Item
    The item being produced by the job is shown here.
    Warehouse
    The warehouse from which job materials should be allocated is displayed.
    Material Percent Complete
    This calculated field displays the percentage of materials that have been issued to the job. This is based on weight or volume that has been issued compared to the weight or volume that is required. This percentage helps you determine the progress of the batch processing.
    Output Percent Complete
    This calculated field displays the percentage of the materials that have been issued, compared to the amount of the item that has been produced. This percentage helps you determine the progress of the batch processing.
    Yield Percent
    This is the true yield percent. Yield percent = (Materials completed) divided by (output completed).
    Formula ID
    ID of the formula being used.
    Formula Version
    If a formula is associated with the job, this field shows the formula revision.
    Formula Description
    The description of the formula associated with the job, if applicable, is displayed.
    Quantity Released
    This field shows the quantity released as assigned to the job. This is the expected required quantity for the produced Item.
    Quantity Completed
    This field shows the quantity already completed for the produced item.
    Quantity Scrapped
    This field shows the quantity scrapped for the produced item.
    Status
    The status indicates whether the job is Complete, Confirmed, Configured, Firm, History, Released, or Stopped.
    Origin Formula ID
    If a formula is associated with the job, this field shows the formula from which the job originated.
    Origin Formula Version
    If a formula is associated with the job, this field shows the formula version from which the job originated.
    Origin Formula Description
    The formula description is displayed.
    Produces WIP
    This field indicates whether the job produces WIP. Typically, this is set only in the job from which the WIP Item is produced.
    Consumes WIP
    This field indicates whether the job consumes WIP. Typically, this is set only for jobs that will consume the WIP being produced from the WIP job.
  5. You can use the Receive Production sub-tab under the Jobs tab to create a job receipt for the selected job.
  6. You can use the Utilities sub-tab under the Jobs tab to balance the WIP job, automatically issue the WIP, and maintain jobs that are affected by the WIP job. Use these options:
  7. You can use the Issue Materials tab to create material transactions based on on-hand inventory for any or all of the listed jobs. On this tab, you also record all relevant information regarding the consumption of raw materials, components and packaging during production processing.
  8. Use the Production Stats tab to get a high-level overview of the current state of the production batch order, so you can evaluate the status of the production batch.
    The tab includes a Production Status grid, and an Update Stats button that you can use to update the information in the grid.
  9. Use the Containers tab to see all items that were produced to containers for the selected production batch order.
  10. Optionally, use the DataView report on the Inquiry tab to get a detailed view of all transactions, receipts, labor, and other useful information about the selected production batch.
  11. After the batch is closed, you can perform these tasks using buttons on the Parameters tab:
    • Click Batch Close Report to display the Process Manufacturing Batch Close Report for the production batch order.
    • Click Close Batch to set the production batch order Status to Closed, to set all open jobs associated with the production batch to complete, and to prevent users from entering material transactions or job receipts for the batch. This button is enabled when the batch is complete and the Complete Date is provided.
    • Click Reopen Batch if additional work needs to be done after the production batch order has been completed. This button is enabled when the batch is complete.
