User preferences in the Windows client
Note: Many of the settings described here apply
only to the Windows client and are not available in the web client. For information about
the user preferences you can set in a web client, see Setting User Preferences in a Web Client.
You can customize many aspects of the user interface to your preferences. Among other things, you can customize:
- The way you log on to the system
- The fonts and colors the system uses for forms, fields, and other components, using themes
- How forms look and behave in Design Mode
- Whether and how the diagnostics tools work
- Whether the tool bar displays
- How often the system checks for new messages in your Inbox form
- Whether and how you are notified of new messages
- How unread messages are displayed in the grid view of the Inbox form
- How forms and form components are displayed by default
To configure the user preferences in the Windows client, select
. To see the effects of your settings on forms that are open, close the forms and reopen them.This table shows the descriptions of the available user preference settings in the Windows client:
Settings | Description |

Runtime Behaviors | These are the settings that control how the system behaves. |
Runtime Layout | These are the settings that control how the user interface appears in Runtime Mode. |
Design Time | These are settings that control aspects of how forms look and behave when you are in Design Mode. You need these only if you are actively involved in creating or modifying forms in the system. |
Diagnostics | These are settings that control how the system works when you are trying to
diagnose problems and bugs while designing and modifying forms. You need these
only if you are actively involved in creating and modifying forms in the
system. Caution: Configure diagnostics only
if Infor Support has instructed you to do so, or if you are debugging a form
under development. Use these settings to specify what information is
recorded in the session log.

Event System | These are settings that control how often the system checks for new messages in your Inbox, whether and how you are notified of new messages, and how the system displays unread messages in the Inbox. There are also settings that determine how you interact with certain Application Event System forms. |
Form Metrics | These are settings that control how forms and form components are displayed, by default. These settings affect only forms that are created using the Form Wizard, the Data Maintenance Wizard, or the XML to IDO Wizard. You can override the default settings in Design Mode, after the forms are initially created. |
