About the usage-tracking license

Usage-tracking licensing is used in the cloud environment.

With usage-tracking, licenses are not enforced at runtime. The license module tracks the usage of each specific object (form, IDO, etc.) during a user session. If the same object is accessed more than once during the same session, only the first usage is recorded. License modules associated with an object that was accessed during a session remain consumed for the duration of that session.

System administrators do not assign users to specific license modules. Users can use any form or IDO regardless of purchased licensing, if they are assigned the appropriate permissions (and if the module is enabled on the Optional Modules form, if appropriate.) However, use of IDOs and forms is noted in the audit tracking tables, along with the license module associated with the IDOs/forms.

Infor uses the audit tracking data to report license consumption and evaluate compliance.

There are exceptions to license consumption rules for these special-case users:

  • Multi-Session SL_Internal user: All SyteLine customers are given a multi-session user named SL_Internal. This capability is designed for WebService automation scenarios, where an application that is accessing the IDO layer may have multiple threads that process simultaneously, with each thread sharing the same configured multi-session user.

Multi-session users are shown in the Multi-Session Users tab on the License Management form.

  • Infor Framework services: Framework services such as the Replicator use '$service' sessions to connect to the application. The '$service' session does not consume a license and is not tracked.
