Item Categories

Use this form to create and maintain item categories. Item categories are assigned to vendors to facilitate Vendor Portal Item Price Request functionality. They are also used in the item category hierarchy that is displayed to customers on the Customer and Reseller portals.

After categories are created, you can do the following:

  • Assign categories to vendors using the Item Categories form, Vendors area or Vendors form, Portal area. This is to facilitate the Vendor Portal Item Price Request functionality.
  • Assign items to categories using the Item Categories form, Items area or Items form, Item Categories area. This is to facilitate the Vendor Portal Item Price Request functionality.
  • Create a hierarchy of categories and subcategories and assign items to categories for the Customer and Reseller portals using the Item Category Workbench form.
Note: Portal catalogs can be used to assemble subsets of items and assign them to certain customers. More information is provided in the portal administration guide.
