Outside

Select this field to identify an outside work center or accept the default of cleared to identify the work center as part of the shop floor. Cost estimating of operations at outside work centers is summarized into an outside category rather than being organized by labor and materials.

On the Resource Schedule, Resource Groups Schedule, Resource Plan, and Resource Group Plan forms, the Outside Flag displays Yes if the operation's work center is an outside work center (that is, the work center's Outside field is selected).

If the job material being processed by an outside operation (for an item of type "Other" and status "Ordered") is cross-referenced to a PO, the system will calculate the remaining operation time by subtracting the current time from the PO line item's Due Date. If the operation is the first operation in the routing, and if the difference between the PO line item Due Date and the current time is greater than the Fixed Schedule Hours or hours per piece value on the operation, the system resets the operation hours to that difference.

The following procedures should be followed if you are using Standard costing for an item and you update this field:

  • select the Current BOM Cost Roll Up Utility
  • select the Roll Current Cost to Std Cost Utility

Following these steps will prevent the occurrence of erroneous variances as a result of updating this field.
