Lot Prefix

Enter the default prefix to be used for all lot numbers. This number may be overridden, on the Items form, by a setting a default prefix to use for a specific item.

If you use the Lot Definition button to define the prefix, the Lot Prefix field displays the result, including placeholders. These placeholders, which start with an ampersand (&), are replaced with current data when the lot number is created.

See Defining Intelligent Lot and Serial Numbers with Prefixes.

If the Generate Lot field is not selected on the Inventory Parameters form, you must manually enter all lot numbers, so specifying a prefix here has no impact.

A prefix can consist of numeric and non-numeric (letters and symbols) characters. However, we recommend that you use a hyphen (-) at the end of the prefix to ensure that the system increments lot numbers correctly.

Adding a prefix does not affect any existing lot numbers for the item.

When you assign lot numbers in the system for this item, you can overwrite the prefix.

Note:  If the quantity in the Quantity On Hand field on the Items or Multi-Site Items form is greater than zero, you cannot update any of the Lot or Serial fields for the displayed item.

Examples:

If you do not enter a value in the Lot Prefix field, the default lot numbers used at this site are 1, 2, etc. if the Generate Lot field is not selected or 000000001, 0000000002, etc. if the Generate Lot field is selected.

If you specify LOT- in the Lot Prefix field, the default lot numbers used at this site are LOT-0000000001 and LOT-0000000002, etc. if you selected the Generate Lot field, and LOT-1, LOT-2, etc. if you did not select Generate Lot.

If you click Lot Definition and define "intelligent" prefix segments, the default lot numbers can include information such as the job or receipt transaction date or the transaction reference. For more information, see Defining Intelligent Lot and Serial Numbers with Prefixes.
