Production Planner Home - Navigator Tab

The Navigator tab on the Production Planner Home form includes the fields and tabs described here. The majority of the information on these tabs is read-only.

Fields

Multi-Site Group: This field allows you to view data in all shared Multi-Site groups including the group logged into by the user. This field is required, and the default value comes from the Multi-Site Group identified on the Users form for the logged-in user. In order to see the correct data on the form, the sites in the group must all contain the same salesperson on each site with the same id.

Planner Code: Choose a planner code from the Planner Code field to limit the number of items that appear. Leave the field blank to return all items. This field does not apply to all tabs. See the help for each tab above to determine whether this field applies.

Tabs

Hot List: This tab shows a list of items that may potentially have an issue with regard to demand vs. quantity on hand. This data comes from planning data (MRP or APS). Choose a planner code from the Planner Code drop-down list to limit the number of items that appear. Leave the Planner Code list blank to return all items. When you click on an item in the grid on the left, the planning detail for that item appears in the grid on the right. When calculating the outstanding demand for items, set the Cutoff Date to look at demand up to this date. The date defaults to the current date.

Transactions: This tab shows material transactions that are of interest to a production planner. Using the information on this tab, a production planner can track down material transactions that affect their day-to-day job. For example, you could use this tab to show if material that was earmarked to be issued to a specific job is no longer available. You can limit transactions that appear by narrowing it down to specific types with the check boxes at the top of the tab. The check boxes are: Finish, Scrap, Issue/WIP Change, Other Cost, and All Types. When All Types is selected, all material transactions are shown, not just those of the types in the other check boxes. The data shown here is the same as on the Material Transactions form.

Exceptions: This tab shows planning exception messages for an item. These exception messages were generated by planning. Choose a planner code from the Planner Code drop-down list to limit the number of items that appear. Leave the Planner Code list blank to return all items. Choose the item in the grid on the left to see relevant information for that item in the grid on the right.

Standard Cost Analysis: This tab provides your production planner a view of standard cost items and their standard costs as compared to the current unit cost. Choose a planner code from the Planner Code drop-down list to limit the number of items that appear. Leave the Planner Code list blank to return all items. The data on this tab comes from the Items form. The cost difference and net impact are calculations based on that data.

Planned Production: This tab shows planned production that will eventually be firmed into production orders. This includes PLNs (planned production from APS or MRP) and MPS orders. Choose a planner code from the Planner Code drop-down list to limit the number of items that appear. Leave the Planner Code list blank to return all items. The grid on the left contains a list of items from the Items form where (narrowed by Planner Code) the item's Source is manufactured and the item's Configuration Flag is cleared.

Production Action: This tab shows possible issues related to production orders (Jobs and PS). Use one of the three options to filter the data:

  • To Be Released or Started: This option shows production orders where the status is firm or planned and the start date is before the current date OR the status is released AND the last transaction date (from the Job Orders form) is blank and the start date is before the current date.
  • Projected Late: This option shows production orders where the projected date is later than the end date. This option is disabled if the system is in MRP mode.
  • Scheduled for Today: This option shows production orders where the status is planned, firm, or released, and the start date is the current date OR the end date is the current date.

Job Variance Analysis: This tab shows jobs for items with a cost type of standard that have had large variance amounts posted into a variance account. For jobs where this condition occurs, a comparison of actual vs. standard costs is shown for the operations and materials on that job. This allows analysis into what jobs are hitting variance accounts and analysis of those jobs' actual costs vs. standard costs. The data on these grids comes from the Job Orders, Job Operations, Material Transactions, and Job Materials forms. Use the drop-down lists at the top of the tab to show a specific account, fiscal year, and period. You must refresh the data (Actions > Refresh) after changing information in the Account, Fiscal Year, or Period fields to see updated data in the grids.

Material Issue Analysis: This tab shows materials on production orders (Job or PS Release) that are either under-issued or over-issued on complete operations based on the Completed Date you set. The job must have a status of "Released". This data comes from the Job Materials form (in the case of jobs) or the Production Schedule Release Materials form (in the case of Production Schedules). Choose a planner code from the Planner Code drop-down list to limit the number of items that appear. Leave the Planner Code list blank to return all items.

Safety Stock: This tab shows items with a quantity on hand below the specified safety stock quantity on the Items form. The data shown here is similar to the Inventory Below Safety Stock report. Choose a planner code from the Planner Code drop-down list to limit the number of items that appear. Leave the Planner Code list blank to return all items.

Production By Customer: Select a customer in the drop-down list on this tab to show active jobs that are tied to that customer. There are two ways that this type of information is obtained:

  • MRP Mode: A job that is directly cross-referenced to a CO Line/Release or project resource.
  • APS Mode: This data comes from the planning engine.

Pending Transactions: This tab provides a single view of unposted job transaction data, as well as DC error processing and pending labor and material transactions. The data in the top grid comes from the Unposted Transactions form. There are several buttons on this tab. Click any button to open its corresponding form. If the button has a number on it other than zero, the form opens and immediately shows those records.

Resource Group Schedule: This tab shows the operations that are scheduled for a Resource Group. The data shown here is generated from the Scheduler, and it is similar to the data shown on the Resource Group Schedule form.

Resource Group Plan: This tab shows the operations that are planned for a Resource Group. The data shown here is generated from the Planner. If the system is in one of the APS modes, the data shown is similar to the data on the Resource Group Plan form.

Demand Summary APS: This tab shows the APS plan for demand orders between the start and end date you set. The tab is disabled if the system is not in one of the APS modes. The data shown here is the same as what is seen on the Demand Summary APS form. This tab also contains two buttons:

  • Detail: Click this button to open the Demand Detail Chart APS form.
  • Reference: Click this button to open the corresponding order form. If the type is "CO" this button opens the Customer Order Blanket Releases form. If the type is "Job", this button opens the Job Orders form. If the type is "PS", this button opens the Production Schedule Items form. If the type is "Proj", this button opens the Project Resources form. If the type is "MPS", this button opens the Master Production Schedule form.
