Setting up the help

Note: As of version 10.00, SyteLine help is stored by default in the cloud on the Infor Documentation Central website. Even if your application environment is on-premises, the help is in the cloud. Customized help as described in this guide is not possible in the cloud. Instead, we recommend that you use Infor Document Management (IDM) to create customized context-sensitive help.

In rare cases, you might decide to load your help on-premises. See the Installation Guide for instructions to do this. The information in the rest of this guide applies ONLY if your help is loaded on-premises.

Infor SyteLine uses web-based online help. Each help topic is a separate HTML file. For context-sensitive help, the application builds the path to the topic file by combining these three pieces of information into a URL and then displaying the resulting topic:

  • Server and initial path information specified in the Configuration Manager
  • Locale path information specified in the Language IDs form
  • Topic path information specified in Design Mode for the specific forms and fields

If you have on-premises help, you can customize the help by creating your own HTML help files and placing them in the proper folder on the application server. Then you can link a custom form, field or button in SyteLine to those help topics.

Caution:
Do not make changes to the standard SyteLine help topics. There are many complex javascripts and other code that could be broken if you try to do this. In addition, remember that our text is copyrighted. Please follow the procedures described in this document to create and link your custom help content.

This document covers these topics about customizing the online help.

  • Understanding the help system structure and location
  • Installing your help in the proper place on the application server
  • Linking a context-sensitive help topic to a custom form or a user-defined field in the application
  • Testing the context-sensitive help
