Comparing Chart Dimensions and Ledger Dimensions

This topic lists the main differences between Chart dimensions and Ledger dimensions.
  • Any number of Chart dimensions can be linked to a GL Account. Only one Ledger dimension can be linked to a GL Account.
  • Chart dimensions can change constantly. Each export can be different. Ledger dimensions should stay unchanged for months or longer, for trend analysis on each dimension.
  • Chart dimensions are exported for every Ledger transaction in the site, every time. Ledger dimensions are more easily filtered by account and date range on the Ledger Dimension Details form.
  • Chart dimensions are updated when the journal transactions are created. Ledger transactions are updated at these times:
    • When the General Ledger Attributes Update Utility is run.
    • When Ledger dimensions are updated on the Journal Entries form.
    • When Ledger dimensions are updated on the GL Posted Transactions form.
