Customer Prefix

On the Accounts Receivable Parameters form, specify the default prefix to be used for customer numbers in SyteLine.

For example, if you enter CP in the Customer Prefix field, the default customer numbers used at this site will be CP00001, CP00002, CP00003, etc. If you do not enter a value in the Customer Prefix field, the default customer numbers used at this site will be 1, 2, 3, etc. Consider choosing prefixes of three letters or less, since the total customer number length (prefix and digits) is 7 characters. Larger prefixes reduce the range of customer numbers available to you.

A prefix can consist of numeric and non-numeric (letters and symbols) characters. However, the prefix should end with an alphabetic character to ensure that the system increments customer numbers correctly.

When you reach the character limit, the system displays a warning message. You will need to start a new prefix sequence. Using the above CP example, after you have entered CP99999, you will need to begin a new customer number prefix.

Once a prefix is added, this prefix will not affect any existing customer numbers.

When entering customer numbers in the system, you may overwrite this prefix.

On the Portal Parameters form, you can specify a different default prefix to be used for customers added from the Customer Portal, so you can distinguish these customers from customers added using SyteLine. If you leave this field blank, the SyteLine customer number prefix is used by default. We recommend that you enter a prefix here, and it is needed only in the portal primary site.
