Extension overview

Admin users who perform the development process must have the Birst-SystemAdministrator security role assigned to their user record in Ming.le. This role also grants access to the Birst application.

There are three use cases users can extend:
  • Extend fact table by adding a new measure
  • Extend model by adding a new dimension key
  • Extend report or dashboard

For Modeling extension, including adding/changing measure and dimension key, you can modify Source/ConformedDimension/Model spaces directly or change them by using extension space.

Using extension space needs pre-setting but does not need recoding after upgrading. Change existing Model space directly carefully because the upgrading process can overwrite changes in Modeling spaces.

For reports/dashboard extension, you can change reports in the consumer space directly.
