Plan on Save

This field applies to APS.

Note:  You can select or clear this field only when you are initially creating the record. After you save the record, you cannot change the setting of this field.

This field controls whether the system plans this line item when you save the line item or waits to plan it until you click Get ATP/CTP.

  • Select this field to insert this line item into the APS plan when you save the line item. See information about the CTP Process for details about how the line item is planned during the save. Typically, you should select this field only if you are not cross-referencing this line item or if you are not copying the current bill of material (BOM) and customizing it.
  • Clear this field to delay the planning of this line item until you click the Get ATP/CTP button. Clearing this field allows you to save the line item, cross-reference it to a supply record, copy the current BOM, customize the production BOM for the supply, and finally click Get ATP/CTP when you are are ready to plan the line item.

You must clear this field if you are using a customized BOM on the cross-referenced supply record. A customized BOM is a production BOM--such as a job BOM or production schedule BOM--that you have modified from the item current BOM.

If the Plan on Save field is selected when you save the line item, the system plans the cross-referenced supply using the item current BOM. Using the item current BOM could cause problems if you have customized the BOM for that supply. By the time you click Get ATP/CTP, planning actions may have already occurred based on the current BOM, resulting in inappropriate material and capacity allocations. Also, the projected date from the Get ATP/CTP process is not accurate because it is calculated with the assumption that the cross-referenced supply should use the current BOM rather than the actual production BOM.
