Inventory Control Steps

This topic provides steps for setting up and maintaining inventory.

Setup Steps

To set up inventory control in the system, enter the following information:

  • Global inventory parameters on the Inventory Parameters form.
  • Product codes to group similar types of items on the Product Codes form.
  • Stock locations on the Locations form.
  • Warehouses on the Warehouses form.
  • Units of measure on the Units of Measure Codes form.

Day-to-Day Management Steps

Follow these steps to manage your inventory:

  • Create item records on the Items or Multi-Site Items form.
  • Set up vendor and item cross-references on the Vendor Contracts form.
  • Set up vendor and item pricing cross-references on the Vendor Contract Pricing form.
  • Define the routing and bill of material for each item on the Current Operations and Current Materials forms.
  • Create item lots on the Lots form.
  • Add items to additional warehouses (other than the default warehouse) on the Item/Warehouse form.
  • Specify the stockroom location of each item and the beginning on-hand quantity on the Item Stockroom Locations form.
  • Enter stock/inventory transactions.
  • Manage obsolete and slow-moving inventory.
  • Monitor data on the Inventory Control Home form.
