APS Planning

This activity re-synchronizes the APS plan when the planning mode is Infinite APS or APS. When you run APS Planning, the system deletes the existing plan and, using the latest information, considers your current on-hand inventory, planned supplies, and resource capacity. It reallocates these supplies and resources to existing and new demands in order of the demands' order priorities.

Run this activity only at times when no other users will be saving changes to records that are included in the plan. You can schedule APS Planning to run at a non-peak time by entering it on the Background Queue, which is accessible from the Actions menu.

Note:  The planner database, the APS server service, and the Mongoose TaskMan service must all be running before you start APS Planning. For more information, see the Installation Guide.

APS Planning generates planned orders and exception messages, and controls job and operation start and end dates. You can view and firm planned orders on the Planning Detail form or on the Material Planner Workbench. Firming a planned order creates a job, production schedule, purchase order, or a transfer order, depending on the type of demand that generated the planned order. For an alternative view to the Planning Detail form, see the Planning Detail APS form.

Note: If the Use Planning Output for Scheduling planning parameter is selected, APS Planning also populates several of the Scheduler output forms and reports, allowing you to use the planning output for your schedule.
