Issue By

On the Items or Multi-Site Items form, this field determines the order in which material is issued (only when the material is lot tracked). The default setting for this field is controlled by the Issue By field that appears on the Inventory Parameters form.

Note: If the material is not lot tracked, the system ignores this field.

Also, the system uses this field to determine from which lots and locations items will be picked first during the pick list process. Select Lot - Lot Number to instruct the system to use lots as the default method when issuing items. Select Location to instruct the system to use locations as the default method when issuing items. Select Expiration Date to instruct the system to use expiration dates as the default method when issuing items.

The system determines the way a lot-tracked item is to be issued in the following manner:

If the Issue By field is set to Lot - Lot Number, the order in which items are pulled is by alphabetic lot first, then by item rank location order within that lot.
If the Issue By field is set to Location, the order in which items are pulled is first by rank item location order, then by alphabetical lot order within the location.
If the Issue By field is set to Expiration Date, the order in which items are pulled is by the lot expiration date. The oldest lots are earlier in the order.

If the Issue By field is set to Location, and you need 15 items for an order, the system draws 15 in the following order:

Stock2/Lot 1 6
Stock2/Lot 3 4
Stock/Lot 2 5

The Stock2 location is ranked higher than the Stock location, so the system first takes the items from the Stock2 lots, in alphabetical order within the location. Then, the system draws the items from the lot within the next ranked location, again in alphabetical order.

If the Issue By field is set to Lot - Lot Number, and you need 15 items for an order, the system draws 15 in the following order.

Stock2/Lot 1 6
Stock/Lot 2 6
Stock2/Lot 3 3

The system takes the items in alphabetical order by lot, ignoring the ranking of the locations.

If the Issue By field is set to Expiration Date, and you need 15 items for an order, the system draws 15 items in order from the oldest lot expiration date to the most recent expiration date.

Note: If the quantity in the On Hand field on the Items form is greater than zero, you cannot update any of the Lot or Serial fields on this form for the displayed item.

On the Item Lot Locations, Item Stockroom Location or Reservations for Item forms, the method used to issue the item displays from the Items or Multi-Site Items form.
