Current Job Prefix

Enter the job prefix to use for all current BOM jobs. A prefix can consist of numeric and non-numeric (letters and symbols) characters. However, the prefix should end with an alphabetic character to ensure that the system increments current BOM job numbers correctly.

If you leave this field blank, the system will assign the next numeric job number when you create a new current routing on the Current Operations form, Copy Routing BOM form, or the Engineering Workbench form. However, because jobs originating from the creation of new current routings are not visible to users, this can create a perceived gap in the job order numbers. For example, let's say you leave this field blank and you create a job on the Job Orders form. The system saves this as job 100. Then you create a new current routing, leaving the Job number blank. The system assigns the number 101 to the job created. You create another job on the Job Orders form, and the system saves this as job 102. When you view a list of job orders, there appears to be a gap between jobs 100 and 102.

If you enter a prefix in this field, then all jobs originating from the creation of new current routings will include the prefix in the job number, and increment independently of regular job orders. For example, say you enter C in this field and you create a job on the Job Orders form. The system saves this as job 100. Then you create a new current routing, leaving the Job number blank. The system assigns the number C1 to the job created. You create another job on the Job Orders form, and the system saves this as job 101. There is no longer a perceived gap between job orders.
