Allocation Type

This field applies to the Scheduler only.

Select the resource's allocation type: Permanent or Temporary. This allocation type determines the Scheduler's action when the resource goes off-shift while processing an operation.

  • Permanent: To resume processing at the operation, the interrupted load must regain the unavailable resource. It cannot allocate any other resource, and only this load can allocate the resource. Reallocation takes place when the resource becomes available, whether reallocation of any other needed resources succeeds or fails.
  • Temporary: The interrupted load must regain the unavailable resource to resume operation processing. If the resource group's Reallocate field is cleared, no other resource can substitute. The interrupted load must compete with other loads for the unavailable resource when it becomes available. The system places the load in the resource's request queue. Reallocation occurs only when the needed resource becomes available and when the interrupted load's request is selected.

Usually, Machine resources are permanent. When the resource goes off shift, work on the load at the resource stops and cannot resume until the resource goes back on shift.

Labor (crew) resources are usually temporary. When an operator goes off shift, the load can be transferred to another operator in the same resource group. The exception to this is when the operator is a skilled laborer, in which case the allocation type would be permanent because the work begun by one craftsperson must be finished by the same craftsperson.
