Action

This field applies to the Scheduler only.

Select the code that indicates how the units of the corresponding resource group should be allocated and/or freed:

  • Allocate and Free (Default): Allocates the resource prior to the start of the operation and frees the resource at the end of the operation. APS only processes resources defined with this action code.
  • Hold: Allocates the resource prior to the start of the operation. At the end of the operation, the resource remains allocated to the load. This option is useful for holding a particular resource that is required for consecutive operations--for example, operation 10, 20, and 30. Each operation must specify the same resource group and use the Action code Hold. At the end of each operation, no other jobs can allocate that resource. After the last operation in the sequence completes (operation 30 in the above example), the resource is freed automatically.

Because resources and members of resource groups are allocated to a specific load, a load must free all resources and group members allocated to it before ending its routing. In other words, all resources allocated on a routing must be freed on the same routing.

When selecting a resource or resource group to allocate and free or hold, you also designate the number of units to apply to the allocation action (on the Quantity Resources field).
