Cross-Referencing a Range of Line Items

You can hard-peg single demand orders to supply orders through the cross-reference function.

For convenience, the Material Planner Workbench allows you to cross-reference a range of orders in a single process.

Note:  This topic uses customer order line items as an example demand type; however you can also perform this procedure with jobs, projects, or transfer orders.
  1. Create customer order line items as you normally create them (on the Customer Order Lines form). In the Source field, select the type of supply to which you will be cross-referencing the order line.
  2. Open the Material Planner Workbench Generation form.
  3. Select the following parameters:
Note:  If a parameter on the form is not listed here, use the default value.
    • Use Planned Data: Set to No.
    • Process check box (next to Order): Set to Yes.
    • Starting and Ending (next to Order): Enter the range of orders you want to cross-reference.
  4. In the remaining fields, select any other options as desired to further filter the orders to cross-reference.
  5. Click Process.

The system generates a message indicates how many customer orders were processed successfully. This process populates these orders for use in the Material Planner Workbench form.

  6. Open the Material Planner Workbench form.
  7. In the View field, select the type of transaction that was specified as the reference for the customer order line on the Customer Order Lines form.

For example, if the order line's Reference field contains Job on the Customer Order Lines form, select Job in the View field. After you select a transaction type, the customer order line records appear in the grid.

  8. Select the Process Line field next to each order you want to cross-reference.
  9. Select Actions > Save.
  10. Click Generate Orders.

The Material Planner Workbench Firm [transaction] dialog box appears. For example, if the Source field on the Customer Order Line form was set to Job, the Firm Job dialog box appears.

  11. Select the appropriate options in the Firm [transaction] dialog box. For example, in the Firm Job dialog box, if you want to create subjobs, select Copy Indented BOM.
  12. Click OK. A success message indicates how many transactions were processed.

After a cross-reference is created, you can change it by either removing the line item or changing the cross-reference information, thus deleting the cross-reference. When this happens, the system displays a warning message indicating the cross-reference will be unlinked.

To view unlinked references, you can filter on the Unlinked Reference check box. You can then do one of the following:

  • Clear the Unlinked Reference check box so that the record is no longer unlinked. There is no indication in the system that the record was ever cross-referenced.
  • Delete the supply record.
  • Leave the Unlinked Reference check box selected.
