About Updating Costs

This topic describes updating unit cost or standard unit costs.

The following represents conditions that allow you to update the unit cost or standard unit costs.

If the current item is a purchased item using Standard costing, the system will only allow you to update the Material, Freight, Duty, Insurance, Local Freight, and Brokerage fields if the following conditions are met:

  • Quantity on hand = 0
  • Quantity flagged as non-nettable for the item = 0
  • No material transaction records of any type exist for the item

If the current item is a manufactured item using Standard costing, the system will only allow you to update the manufactured costs (Material Cost, Labor Cost, Fix Ovhd Cost, Var Ovhd Cost, and Outside Cost) when the Roll Current Cost to Standard Cost utility is run or if the following conditions are met:

  • Quantity on hand = 0
  • Quantity flagged as non-nettable for the item = 0
  • No material transaction records of any type exist for the item

For manufactured or purchased items with a cost type of A, unit cost for material may be updated.

If the item uses Actual (LIFO, FIFO, Specific) costing and is a purchased or manufactured item, the Unit Cost fields are display only. You must use the BOM Cost Rollup Utility to update the costs.

If the item uses Actual (Average) costing and is a purchased or manufactured item, you may update the unit cost manufactured cost buckets. If the item is purchased, the landed cost buckets (material, freight, duty, insurance, local freight and brokerage) are totaled in the Material Cost field. If the item is manufactured, journal entries are made to reflect the changes to the cost fields.
