Creating a Log Monitor Policy sequence

Site coordinators can use the Log Monitor Policies form to add multiple filter policies and override filter policies written in the configuration file. By creating filter policies, you can reduce the amount of log data collected and stored in the servers and still have the option to collect data logs for specific uses at runtime. For example, at any point, you can create a filter policy to collect data for use in diagnosis, without the need to cycle servers or to change configuration files.

You can edit existing filter policies by clicking a sequence in the grid view.

Optionally, you can activate or deactivate a sequence in the grid view. To activate or deactivate an existing sequence, select or clear its corresponding Active check box and then click Save.

Note: These filter settings apply to the entire server farm.

To perform this task, you must use the Log Monitor Policy form in the Site Coordinator Configuration.

  1. Open the Log Monitor Policy form.
  2. Specify this information:
    Sequence
Specify a sequence number to define the order in which this filter policy is executed.
Note: If you run the Log Monitor Policies form in a configuration other than the Site Coordinator Configuration, then this field is read-only.
    Active
To activate the filter policy, select this option.
Note: If you run the Log Monitor Policies form in a configuration other than the Site Coordinator Configuration, then this check box is read-only.
    Source
Optionally, to include this category as part of the filter, specify the name of the source and click Include.

To exclude this category in the filter policy, click Exclude.

Note: If you run the Log Monitor Policies form in a configuration other than the Site Coordinator Configuration, then the Include and Exclude radio buttons are hidden.

To collect data from all sources, leave this field blank and click Include.

To display data from multiple sources, specify the sources as a pipe-delimited list. For example, specify: IDORuntime | MGEvent

    Log Types
Optionally, select the data types for collection and click Include.

To exclude this category in the filter policy, click Exclude.

Note: If you run the Log Monitor Policies form in a configuration other than the Site Coordinator Configuration, then the Include and Exclude radio buttons are hidden.
    Regular Expression
Optionally, specify a message in plain text or regular expression and click Include.

To exclude this category in the filter policy, click Exclude.

Note: If you run the Log Monitor Policies form in a configuration other than the Site Coordinator Configuration, then the Include and Exclude radio buttons are hidden.

To collect all message texts, leave this field blank and click Include.

To collect multiple text strings, specify the sources as a pipe-delimited list. For example, specify: Querying suspending insert event initiators | Session ID

You can use wild cards in this field, in the form of either regular expressions or plain text. However, you cannot mix the two. You can use special characters in regular expression text but exercise caution. Ensure that you specify texts in correct regular expression syntax.

    Log Retention in Minutes
Specify the amount of time the logs are kept in the system, in minutes.
Note: If you run the Log Monitor Policies form in a configuration other than the Site Coordinator Configuration, then this field is hidden.
    Log Until Time
Displays the date and time at which the system is to automatically stop data collection.
  3. Optionally, to restart the data collection, click Refresh Timer.
  4. Click Save.
