Serial- and lot-controlled products

To issue serial- or lot-controlled products, you must specify the serial or lot numbers, or control numbers, for the products that you issue. This procedure varies, depending on SA Administrator Options and Product Warehouse Product Setup settings in Distribution SX.e.

After you specify a serial- or lot-controlled product and a quantity, click the Serials or Lots button to access the Serial Entry or Lot Entry page. If you issue a serial-controlled product that was assigned a serial number during receiving or a lot-controlled product, you must specify an existing control number. If you issue a serial-controlled product that is assigned a serial number at sale, you must specify a new control number.

The number of serial- or lot-controlled products that you are expected to enter is shown in the serials and lots entry grid header. Each serial-controlled product is assigned a serial number so if you issue five serial-controlled products, you must specify five serial numbers. If you issue lot-controlled product, you can specify more than one lot number per line item. For example, if you are issuing 20 units of Product A, you can issue 10 units from Lot-1 and 10 units from Lot-2.

The Storeroom unit of measure (UOM) for a product can affect the number of control numbers that you are expected to enter. The expected number might be a multiple or a fraction of the number that you specified in the Requested field.

For example, you issue one serial-controlled product that is sold as a three pack. Because the Storeroom UOM is three, you must specify three serial numbers. If you issue lot products, the expected number is a decimal number if the Storeroom UOM is a fraction of the stocking UOM. For example, you issue one saw blade but stock saw blades in cases of 100. Because the Storeroom UOM is .01, you enter one lot number.

The number of products that you entered is also displayed in the grid. If you do not enter the expected amount of control numbers, an allocation error message is displayed. Check your entries, and then delete additional control numbers to prevent an over allocation error. You cannot complete your transaction, or sometimes, enter a line, if you have not allocated the correct number of control numbers.

When you issue lot-controlled products, the lot quantity available, the open date, and expire date is displayed for each lot number. When you issue serial-controlled products, the receipt date and comments are displayed with each serial number. This information might help determine which control numbers to issue.

If you view or print a pick ticket, the control numbers that you specified are included on the pick ticket.
