Ordering a configurable assembly-type item

  1. Select Sales > Entry > Order.
  2. In the Product field, specify the primary part number.
  3. On the Configuration Assembly Information window, specify the quantity to build, and the warehouse for assembly.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. On the Assembly Segment Configuration window, specify the segment values for the primary item. The system validates each segment entry and the segment order using the validation and rules set up in VA Product Defaults Setup so that you can address errors as they occur.
  6. Click OK. Continue with the order, based on one of these scenarios:
    • If the item exists in inventory and sufficient quantity exists, the line is added to the order. Continue standard order processing.
    • If the item exists in inventory without sufficient quantity, a work order is created for the full quantity. Continue standard work order processing for the order line.
    • If the item does not exist in inventory, you are prompted to create a non-stock line. If you think you made an error in the segment entry, click Edit to return to the Assembly Segment Configuration window to revise the segments to create a stock item; otherwise, click Create NS to create the non-stock item. Continue standard order processing for the non-stock product.
  7. After all component non-stock items are created (there could be one or more), review the VA transaction and, if necessary, makes any changes.
Note: The ability to make changes is based on your authorization point security.

The completed segment assembly configuration entries consist of the flexible, variable product number. In processing, the bracketed placeholders are replaced with the value from the placeholder’s segment. The length segment, which is assigned in VA Product Default Setup, is used to calculate the actual length of the variable length components and adjusts the quantity needed on the VA order.

A work order for the product is created and processed using the standard workflow processing. Pricing for the item uses the standard VA pricing. You can override the price on the Value Add Rollup window if you are authorized to see and modify pricing on the OE Pricing option settings in SA Operator Setup.
