SA Tax Table Setup overview
Function acronym: SASST
Use this page to set up default values for the postal codes you use most frequently. These default values are cross-referenced by the system when you create a new customer or shipto record, or modify the postal code of an existing record.
If a tax table default value exists, the associated values are added to the new customer or shipto record in the Ordering and Taxing views. The associated values are the Warehouse in the Ordering view, and the State, County, City, Other1, and Other2 fields in the Taxing view.
The cross-referencing is checked for a 5-digit match of the postal code. For example, 80919. If the 5-digit match exists, the default values associated with that 80919 postal code record are used to populate the Ordering and Taxing views. If that 5-digit match does not exist in the database, the cross-referencing is checked for a first 3-digit match. For example, 809. The closest associated values to the 3-digit match, for example, 80920, auto-populate the customer or shipto record. If you modify a postal code in an existing customer or shipto record, the cross-referencing is checked, and the default value overwrites the field values in the Ordering and Taxing views.
Tax master records, such as SA Sales Use Tax Setup or SA Goods and Services Tax Setup, are checked by the system to ensure records exist for every jurisdiction that was selected in SA Tax Table Setup. Customer Setup or Customer Ship To Setup records are not updated if these conditions exist:
- Any tax master records are missing.
- The default warehouse does not have a valid Product Warehouse Description Setup record.
If the records cannot be updated, we recommend that you create the missing records for the tax jurisdictions that apply to the new postal code.
The SA Tax Table Setup is beneficial for centralized businesses where the majority of your customers meet these conditions:
- Customers are in the same postal code or within a few postal codes.
- Customers are supplied by certain warehouses, such as in metropolitan or condensed areas of the country.
- The supply chain does not cross state boundaries.
