Job groups
Job groups are multiple related reports that are arranged in an execution order using position numbers. Report Scheduler uses job groups to enforce dependencies among Distribution SX.e reports. Use a job group to place several reports together and set their execution order so that a report that must be run before another report runs automatically.
You can also use job groups to set up continuous execution cycles based on certain repeating patterns. This feature is useful for reports that must be printed at repeating intervals throughout the business day, such as pick tickets.
Using job groups effectively
To use job groups effectively, determine which reports can benefit most by automatically enforcing dependencies to other reports or by using automated print cycles. Pick tickets are one example because they can be set up in a job group to print automatically at prescribed intervals.
Naming job groups
It is important to develop a naming convention and employ those conventions when naming your job groups. Giving logical names to your job groups results in a more efficient schedule maintenance.
Run and start types
To effectively schedule your job groups, you can assign the start and end dates and times, and specify a run type and start type.
Job groups as components
You can assign a job group as a component of another job group. When you assign a job group as a component of another job group or modify a job group that is a component of another job group, Distribution SX.e uses these rules to determine if you can add or modify the group:
- You cannot add a job group with a start date as a component of a new group.
- You cannot add a job group as a component of more than one other job group.
- You cannot add a start date to a job group that is a component of another job group.
