Sovos and Canadian customers
For Canadian provinces, the province and postal code are used by Sovos to determine the correct Geo code from customer and shipto records.
When you set up a customer in Customer Setup or Customer ShipTo Setup and select the Country code you defined for Canada in SA Company Setup, you can specify the correct province code and Canadian postal code. Either address in this example is acceptable:
- City: Halifax State: NS Zip: B3L2Y2
- City: Halifax State: CN Zip: B3L2Y2
Because either format is accepted and passed to Sovos, you are not required to look up the Geo code. This format also applies to the shipto address specified in Sales Order Entry. To ensure correct delivery of acknowledgments and product, we recommend that you specify a valid mailing address, including a valid province code, for the Sales Order Entry shipto address. Any necessary conversions for the sales and use tax system to interpret these addresses as Canadian are made by Distribution SX.e.
If you are also using the VeraZip addon package with Sovos, when you accept the Geo code default value, the values passed by VeraZip to the sales and use tax system are loaded into the City, State, and Zip fields. Although these values are accurate for calculating tax for this Canadian customer, likely the format may not adhere to the format required for mailing, for example, invoices and acknowledgments, to this customer. In this case, you must re-specify the correct mailing address.
