Credit card or debit card scanner device
A scanner is a peripheral device that allows the magnetic strip on a credit or debit card to be read and for the data captured from the strip to be transmitted to the system. A card scanner is optional. However, scanning allows faster processing of card transactions and reduces typing errors. Some card processors provide a discount for scanned transactions.
To implement this feature of credit or debit card processing, you must purchase a card scanner device for each terminal. The system supports a keyboard wedge scanner that functions as a keyboard emulator. This type of scanner is physically placed between the keyboard and the terminal or PC using a “Y” cable that is connected to the PS/2 port of the PC or terminal and to the keyboard.
The Credit Card Interface system interprets the data from the scanner the same as if you specified the data using the keyboard. You must use a scanner that reads at least two tracks of data without separating the data tracks during processing. A driver-based scanner that uses a USB port is not supported.
