Time repetitions
The time repetitions, or intervals, you assign to a print job can be linear or cyclical, also referred to as noncontinuous or continuous.
For example, you have 10 job components in your print job. If you make the time repetition linear, the 10 job components only print once until the entire job is scheduled to print again. If you make this job cyclical, the 10 job components print in their assigned position and priority order and then begin again, repeating this cycle according to the time repetition you selected.
All continuous or cyclical jobs repeat until the queue containing the job group is inactivated.
Print jobs that are assigned the linear time repetition are executed based on the positions and priorities that are assigned to each job component. After the reporting service executes each job component, the job is finished and is not be repeated unless the job is scheduled again manually or by specifying a schedule in the start type. To assign a linear time repetition, select None when creating a report schedule in the SA Table Code Value Setup. You use linear time repetition for most of your jobs.
Print jobs that are assigned a cyclical time repetition are executed based on the positions and priorities that are assigned to each job component. After the last component is executed, the job repeats. Because cyclical jobs repeat endlessly until their queue is inactivated, they should be assigned their own unique queues. If other jobs are in a queue with a cyclical job, the other jobs never run. A typical use of continuous printing would be for printing pick tickets using Sales Entry Pick Tickets Report.
You can select these cyclical time repetitions:
- Minutes
The job repeats every number of minutes you specify. After your job group has finished printing, it prints again after the specified number of minutes has passed.
- Quarter Hour
The job repeats on the quarter hour. If you select this time repetition for your job group, the components print once and then print again at the next available quarter hour, such as 5:15, 5:30, and 5:45. If the job runs longer than 15 minutes, the job will not run every quarter hour. For example, if a job that started at 3:30 takes 35 minutes to execute, the job runs next at 4:15.
- Half Hour
The job repeats on the half hour but not necessarily every half hour. The job will not run every half hour if a job runs more than 30 minutes.
- Hourly
The job repeats continuously on the hour.
- Bi-Hourly
The job repeats every other hour.
All continuous or cyclical run types keep repeating until the queue containing the job group is inactivated.
