Supersede, substitute, and upgrade product sales

Supersede, and substitute, and upgrade products are set up in the Reference view of Product Extended Product Cross Reference Setup.

Depending on the quantities available and the settings on the cross-reference records, you can sell both products associated with supersede and substitute cross-reference records. For example, the superseded product and the supersede product, or the substituted product and the substitute product. Typically, an upgrade is only sold when the inventory for the original product is depleted.

If the Sell Superseded First setting on a supersede cross-reference record or the Sell Substituted First setting on the substitute cross-reference record has a value, you might be required to sell the superseded or substituted product until the available inventory is depleted.

Sell First restrictions are applied to stock orders at the company, warehouse, or regional level. If the Company is specified in these Sell First fields, you must deplete the available inventory in all warehouses in the company before you can sell the supersede or substitute product. If Warehouse is specified, you must deplete the inventory in the warehouse specified on sales order header. If Region is specified, you must deplete the inventory in each warehouse assigned to the Region. The region is determined by the Region on the Product Warehouse Description Setup record for the warehouse specified on sales order header.

For example, you create a supersede cross-reference record with Product B superseding Product A. The Sell Superseded First setting is Region. If you specify Product B on a sales order in an ordering warehouse that does not have a region specified on its Product Warehouse Description Setup record, you are not required to sell Product A from a warehouse with available product. If a region was specified on the warehouse record for the ordering warehouse, you are required to sell Product A from any warehouse within the region if inventory is available.

If you deplete the available inventory for the superseded or substituted product but still require product to meet the quantity specified on the line item, then you must enter another line item for the supersede or substitute product.

If a product has both a supersede and a substitute cross-reference record with a Sell First value, the superseded product must be sold before the substituted product.

You can override the Sell First settings if the To Override Selling Super/Sub Product authorization point in SA Authorization Security Administration is assigned to you. Or, you must be granted the authority to perform the override in SA Grant Authorization Administration.

If the Interface to Warehouse Transfers option in SA Administrator Options-Documents-Sales Orders-Processing is selected, a warehouse transfer can be created automatically when quantity still exists for the superseded products in another warehouse. You must choose to deplete that stock before selling the new supersede product in Sales Order Entry. You must also set permissions to allow WT ties to be created in Sales Order Entry. In SA Operator Setup-Entry Options-OE/PO Entry Options, select Allow Entry of WT Ties or Allow Both PO and WT Ties in the PO/WT Ties field.
