Disposition constraints and effects
The disposition of a sales order indicates to warehouse personnel how they should handle the order. When you create an order in Sales Order Entry, the disposition defaults from the Customer Setup or Customer Ship To Setup record. You can change it in the Customer Order Settings section in the Select Product view. The disposition does not apply to a Direct Order (DO) since DOs are sent from the vendor directly to the customer.
Order disposition options include Ship Complete, Tag and Hold, Will Call, Just in Time, and none.
The default disposition that is set up in the customer record might not be applicable to certain order types. This table shows each order type and any disposition restrictions that apply:
Order Type | Disposition Restriction |
---|---|
BL | If JIT is on the customer record, blank defaults. |
BO | JIT is not allowed. |
BR | If JIT is on the customer record, blank defaults. |
CR | Defaults to disposition on the customer record but can be changed. |
CS | Cannot be JIT. If Ship Complete, Tag & Hold, or Will Call in add mode, order is changed to Stock Order. |
DO | No disposition is available since product doesn’t enter your inventory. |
FO | Defaults to disposition on the customer record but can be changed. |
QU | Defaults to disposition on the customer record but can be changed. |
RM | JIT is not allowed. |
SO | Defaults to disposition on the customer record but can be changed. |
ST | If JIT is on the customer record, blank defaults. |
In addition to disposition restrictions that apply to the order type, there are also restrictions on orders containing back orders and line direct orders. This table shows these restrictions:
If: | Then: |
An order has an existing back order | Only dispositions of Will Call and blank are allowed. |
An order contains line direct orders | The disposition cannot be changed to Ship Complete, JIT, or Tag & Hold. |
Order disposition is changed from Ship Complete or Tag & Hold to Will Call or blank, and the Allow Back Orders option on the header is cleared | The Back Order option is selected for nonstock and special lines. Stocked products are set to the header value. |
Back orders are not created for the sales line and the sales order does not have a Ship Complete or Tag & Hold disposition | The sales line cannot be tied to Purchase Order, Warehouse Transfer, or Value Add orders. |
The disposition can be validated on orders that are received from external applications, such as Storefront, Rhythm Commerce, CPQ, or Project Job Management. You can activate the business rule, CrtSXAPIOrderDispErr, to create an error in Electronic Transaction Control Center (ETCC) if an order is received by an external process that contains an invalid disposition. In this situation, the Disposition field on the order is cleared, the order is placed on e-hold, and the error is displayed in ETCC. You must review and correct the error before the order can be processed. Activate the business rule in SA Business Rule Setup by setting the Rule Value to Yes.
