Work order tie process for prebuilt kits
If you set up prebuilt kits that contain subassembly kit components as order as needed (OAN) products, when you run the KP Entry Recommended Work Orders Report with the Process Only Specials? option set to Yes, work orders are created and tied automatically if demand exists.
This table shows the work orders and ties that would be created for a parent kit that includes a kit component that requires assembly.
Prebuilt Kit 1 (WO 22) | |||
1) Component 1 | |||
2) Component 3 | |||
3) Component 5 | |||
4) PB Kit 2 (WO23) – | 1) Component 4
Tied to WO 22 Seq 4 | 2) Component 1
3) PB Kit 3 (WO24) – | 1) Component 2
Tied to WO 23 Seq 3 | 2) Component 5
4) Component 7 | 3) Component 7
4) PB Kit 4 (WO25) – | Component 7
Tied to WO 24 Seq 4 | Component 11 |
You create an order in Sales Order Entry and the parent work order (WO 22) is automatically created because there is not enough Prebuilt Kit 1 product available. Because the parent work order (WO 22) has a prebuilt component (PB Kit 2), a new subassembly work order (WO 23) is created and tied to the parent work order. A component on work order 23 is also prebuilt and does not have enough available stock, so another subassembly work order (WO 24) is created and is tied to a subassembly work order (WO 23). Because work order 24 contains a prebuilt component, a subassembly work order (WO 25) is created and tied to a subassembly work order (WO 24).
If your prebuilt kits are not set up as OAN, manually tie work orders at both the component and subassembly component level in KP Work Order Center Entry-Quick Work Order Entry so that back order fill processes correctly. This work order tie edits apply to manual ties:
- A work order tie must be to an existing work order.
- A work order tie must be to a prebuilt kit in ordered stage, not printed.
- A work order tie and sequence number must correspond to the prebuilt product number you are tying to.
- The warehouse must be the same across work order ties.
- Multiple ties are allowed, but if a work order tie already exists, an information only message is displayed.
